Why Website Marketing is Essential for Small Business
Small business owners: is the internet part of your advertising efforts? Website marketing is not just about throwing up a pay-per-click ad, or having a website.….it is a crucial component to the ability of many small businesses to drive traffic and customers to your door, whether your "door" is real or virtual.
As part of my law practice, and as a small business owner, I meet with and speak to other small business owners on a daily basis.
These business owners are, for the most part, concerned with one thing: increasing their client/customer base so that they can earn more
income or make up for lost income.
Although these small business people realize the internet is a valuable tool, they fail to realize the
importance of website marketing for their small businesses. The fact is that the current economy presents special challenges to small business
owners, making it impossible to continue doing things the way we did them before.
The internet is now a crucial part of any small business marketing strategy.
This includes not only a website presence, but for others, understanding how social media and social networking play a part, as well.
Yet, for some, the internet is a scary place. Learning and understanding the importance of niche marketing, how to position internet ads,
doing keyword research to find the most effective ways of reaching the target customer base, writing your web pages in a way that pleases both
search engines and your valuable clients….all of these are necessary components to a successful website marketing strategy, but are
things that a number of small business owners feel is beyond their capacity to learn.
Here’s the thing, though: no one understands your business the way you do. You are in a unique position to present the
benefits of utilizing your goods and/or services. You are, in fact, the expert about your business.
The question is: how does anyone that hasn’t done business with you before know about your particular ability to serve their needs?
Traditional forms of marketing and advertising, such as business cards, brochures, and ads cannot provide the type of quality information that consumers are looking for in a cost effective manner. These days, there are so many product and service providers out there that people simply are not going to make a choice based on an ad in traditional media forms. They want to know why they should do business with you.
The internet provides a unique platform for you to “get the word out” about how you are better or different than the competition. You don’t have to sit and make a hundred calls. You don’t have to send out hugely expensive mailings. Well, you can do these things—but follow them up with a quality website that provides details about your product…your operation…your service…your success—you!
More and more people are using the internet today to get information about businesses, about products & services, and to learn about how to get things accomplished. Utilize the internet to reach these people and you will be well ahead of many other small business owners competing for those clients.
Advertising your business online has a learning curve—but one that any business owner, who knows their company well, can do successfully. It is also important to realize that this advertising cost doesn’t have to be high. In fact, I’ve spoken with many small businesses that have cut way back on their traditional forms of advertising to focus on their internet presence—with great results, and at the same or less cost than before.
Website marketing does not have to be a painful process for any small business. Instead, look at internet marketing as a way to grow your company, to gain new customers, and to discover multiple income streams!
