Using Social Network Marketing to Promote Yourself
In these trying economic times, you must come up with more creative
ways to get your resume and message out to the masses and this can be
accomplished through social network marketing.
The Executive Job Market
Intelligence Report 2008 from ExecuNet, an online recruitment
aggregator, shows executive recruiters now fill 56% of jobs through
networking, another 10% through their own online research and 4% by
searching Google, social networks and other sites. "If you're a
recruiter and you're not using LinkedIn and Facebook or Twitter, I
don't know what you're using," said Lindsay Olson, partner and
recruiter at Paradigm Staffing.
Although I did not grow using this technology, I do see the personal
and business values in this type of media and I am using it. I also
understand some of the hesitation of executives to start using these
tools.
My recommendation for businesses would be to establish a
business need and try to create some metrics that are easily
reportable. Start small and take it slow. Find a corporate sponsor
who is willing to initiate such a project. Develop policies around
the use of such media within your business and don't give up. I do
not believe that social media is a trend or fad, but more of a shift
in how we interact with each other via the web.
