Michigan Litigation Attorney What Does "Litigation" Really Mean?
What is a Michigan Litigation Attorney? Clients and friends frequently ask me, "Every lawyer and law firm website talks about “litigation”—what does that really mean?" There is a long answer to this, but I will give you the simplest one I can. When attorneys talk about “litigation” they are generally talking about preparing for and conducting a trial. It is important to note that litigation is different from mediation and arbitration, because the purpose of participating in mediation and/or arbitration is to avoid trial. It is also important to understand that the word “litigation” is mostly used in the context of civil—not criminal—lawsuits. Your attorney should fully explain to you the pros and cons of whether litigation is the best solution for you, or whether you would benefit from another method of solving your dispute.
