Attorney Fee Agreement Why Does Your Firm Require it?
Whenever a client wants to hire me to represent them, I require a written attorney fee agreement. For this reason, one of the most frequently asked questions I get from clients and potential clients is, "Why do you require a signed agreement before you will take my case? The answer to this question is actually quite simple. I want you to understand up front what your rights and responsibilities will be in the event we decide to work together to solve your legal problems. One of the most repetitive legal problems is when two people who enter into a contract or an agreement fail to adequately outline their business relationship with one another. In fact, it is one of the reasons I get hired most often--because people fail to have a thorough agreement with one another that leads to future misunderstandings and disagreements. At the very least, I (or any lawyer) should make sure that you have a complete understanding of our business relationship, and furthermore, that the business relationship is thoroughly covered in a written agreement. Therefore, for both our sakes, I require a written and signed agreement before I commence representation on a case.
